What are eBooks?

An eBook ("e" stands for "electronic") is a book in digital, electronic format rather than printed on paper and bound in the "traditional" manner.

EBooks can be read on your computer or on your PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or handheld computer, depending on their format. (Please note that downloadable eBooks like those produced by Pearlsong Press cannot be downloaded and read via Web TVs because there is no means of downloading and storing the file on a hard drive or disk, as can be done with a computer.)

In  most cases, the software you use to read the eBook can be downloaded for free. In fact, you may already have it on your computer.

Pearlsong Press eBook formats include Adobe Reader (also known as Adobe Acrobat Reader), Microsoft Reader, and Palm Reader.

Adobe Reader format (also known as Acrobat Reader)

You probably already have Adobe Reader (or its predecessor, Adobe Acrobat Reader) installed. If not, click on the links at the side to download the free software now.

Microsoft Reader format

Microsoft's eBook Reader software can be downloaded for free at www.microsoft.com/reader.

MS Reader features "text to voice" capability, which means that in some eBooks you can click on a link and have the eBook read out loud to you by your computer.

Palm Reader format

This Palm Reader doesn't tell your fortune. It's a free program that allows one to read Palm format eBooks on PDAs (personal digitial assistants) and other handheld devices.

If you have a Palm PDA, it's probably already installed. You can also upgrade to Palm Reader Pro for a fee. Download either at www.palmone.com.
