Something to think about....

To lose confidence in one’s body is to lose confidence in oneself.
Simone de Beauvoir

On March 28th, I had an article posted on The Big, Bold, Beautiful Blog titled "Making Peace With My Body." The paragraph that got the most attention was the following.

"We don’t come into the world hating how we look. As babies and young children, we’re at total peace with our body. Hating our body is a learned exercise. And we have many teachers. Women’s magazines, television, movies and many other areas are constantly sending the message that if we aren’t tall, thin and beautiful, then we’re not adequate. But even the tall, thin and beautiful ones are at war with their bodies."

We need to be careful as parents, aunts, uncles, etc., not to be a part of that learning/teaching  process for our children. In other words, don't talk the talk. "Do I look fat in this?" "Man, these pants make my butt look fat!"—You get the idea. And we need to keep our eyes and ears open for any source that is sending negative messages to our children, and try to do damage control as soon as we recognize it.

Hi everyone!

Okay, I have to admit that I'm excited about spring.

While, as most of you know, fall is my favorite time of the year, with winter coming in second, I will say that there's just something spiritual about spring. The fresh green leaves popping out, seemingly overnight, the birds singing their joyous greeting to each new day, and the entire world in bloom.

I could almost claim spring as my favorite season if I didn't know that summer was right around the corner. Summer, with her heat, spiders, dry weather, heat, spiders, bright sunlight, and did I mention heat? Okay, enough.

Son, Eric, and family recently took a nine-day vacation to Florida, and I got to keep my 80 lb. grand-dog, Lacy. I actually had Lacy for 14 days, counting the day she came and the day she left. I won't bore you with all my grand-dog stories, but she continues to amaze me. Okay, if you insist, I'll tell you one story.

Friday night Lacy and I watched a movie and when it was over, she got up and started sniffing around one side of the room. She sniffed enough to get my curiosity up, wondering what trail she was on. Finally she stopped at our small vent-free gas heater, which is mounted on the wall in the living room as backup heat. After sniffing around it several times, she stopped in front of it and pressed her nose up against the glass cover that protects the flames, and just stood there.

I thought, "Okay, what's up with this?" and went over to the heater and discovered that the pilot light was out! I told my husband, Joe, that "Lassie" had saved our lives!

Everyone have a wonderful April!

                                 Love,

                                                  Pat

Weighty Matters

There is an incredibly good article that I want to share with you, even though I don't like the website it's on. But the material is so good, I feel compelled to share it. This article is a wonderful lesson in "critical thinking" on anything we hear coming from the media pertaining to how unhealthy it is to be fat, overweight (over whose weight?) or obese.

I've taken excerpts from the article to tease you into reading it.

Where Science Meets Sin
by Dr. Abby Aronowitz

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. life expectancy just hit another all-time high. Is this despite increasing weights of Americans, or because of it?

Research continues to explore why increased weights are linked to increased life expectancy, since this is actually old news. Every population study around the world found longest survival rates in the overweight range, despite pervasive beliefs that thin is the healthiest range. In fact the NIH found 86,000 fewer deaths in the overweight range when compared to the normal weight range, and 33,000 more deaths in the thin range. Why didn't they revise weight recommendations after their own research confirmed this???

My advice is to live a relatively healthy lifestyle, enjoy life, and don’t worry about your weight. Becoming your personal best is a great goal, since not everyone was meant to be thin.

The following note was sent to Pat via email from Teresa S:

Dear Pat, I just wanted to let you know that your books have changed my life in a matter of days.

See, I received a Kindle for Christmas—I always read, always! Most of the time it is Sandra Brown and Linda Howard—I have read all their books. So I typed in on my Kindle "plus size romance" and your books popped up.

In the last 2 days I have read Nobody's Perfect (1st), Dangerous Curves Ahead (2nd), A Worthy Heir (3rd,) His Brother's Child (4th) and just finished Abigail's Revenge. They were all awesome. My favorite is Nobody's Perfect.

I wanted you to know that you are now MY FAVORITE AUTHOR. Please tell me more books are coming. I have been overweight my entire life, I never thought that I was pretty— my husband tells me that I am, BUT until I read your books—WOW, I am telling you life changing. Anyway just wanted you to know that!

Anyway thanks again for your life changing stories. God Bless you always!

Teresa S
